What They Don’t Tell You About Adulting

What they don’t tell you about adulting is.. It’s a trap lol. I’m totally joking, but adulthood can certainly feel like you are stuck with nowhere to turn.

Adulthood is juggling a million things in your mind and still showing up for your responsibilities. I don’t think school or even university prepares you for the journey of being an adult. The weight of making potentially life changing decisions hits different at 28 then it does at 18. From an early age we are making decisions about what to study and where, based on careers and a job we think we want.

The truth is adulting is a journey, I feel like each decade is a new journey. At any age you are constantly discovering who you are, who you want to be, and where you want to go next. There is no such thing as arriving, as much as it is satisfying to reach a life goal, you wouldn’t stop at your said goal. There is always more.

The thing with today’s life is we measure up against other people and what we think they have or do not have. Social media allows us to create a perception of someone else’s life which could be completely false, and such false standards and expectations are created for our own lives.

Everyone’s journey is different. I have no shame in saying most times I really am just winging it and walking by faith with God. I do not have it all figured out. There is so much that I don’t understand about my own life and how I can make my dreams a reality. All I can do is control what I can control and keep working hard.

So that’s the takeaway today… It really doesn’t matter if it looks like someone else has it altogether and seemingly has the perfect life, you do not know what they had to go through and their sacrifice. Rather the spotlight is on your pathway, controlling that which is controllable, working hard, stewarding the things you do have well and leaving the rest to God.

You ain’t alone in feeling adulthood is tough, believe me. Life is precious and special so let’s enjoy the journey.

Love,
