So last week, we looked at how we can change our perspective when it comes to our thoughts and what we say about ourselves, you can check it out here.
For everyone of us, we experience setbacks and trails of some description and your perspective, how you see these trials, then ultimately informs how you respond.
First, I want you to think about (and/or list) the things you have your hands on, positions you hold and future positions you know God wants for you to hold – this could be in regards to family, career or anything else. Next, I want you to say “I am a …….. and God has given me the grace to be……, to do…… (insert the things from your list accordingly)”. Here is one of mine: I am a Paralegal at Red Bull and God has given me the grace to do this job.
What God has given you, He has given you the grace to steward it and steward it well. What is God’s grace? One of the ways the grace of God is at work in your life is to give you a supernatural ability to do/not do something, and to overcome difficulty and your response to such difficulty. This means that you have the strength, capacity, intelligence (emotional and intellectual) to do and be all the things God has called you to. Whether it is marriage, parenthood or a challenging job, when pressure comes you have the ability to overcome, not least because you have the Holy Spirit to help you, but also because of God’s grace.
- 2 Corinthians 12:9 – Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.
- Hebrews 4:16 – Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
- Romans 5:17 – For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ!
- 2 Corinthians 9:8 – And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
- Ephesians 2:10 – For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
So, here are some questions/affirmations that will trigger a thought process to give you a different perspective:
- God has graced me to be able to handle this situation
- Father, I ask for more of your grace to do XXX
- My Father trusts me enough to handle this situation
- So, Holy Spirit what is my next move, what do you require of me in this situation?
- Show me Lord what I am to learn from this situation
- I know that all things are working for my good
A practical example: In your job, you are dealing with someone who is difficult to work with, God has given you the grace to love them and work with them successfully. Think about it like this, God has sent you there to be an example of His love and patience.
The goal here is that when trials/problems come, they do not rattle you or throw you off course. Rather, your perspective causes you to operate from a place of victory and peace and therefore causing your response to be completely different. Victory and peace is your inheritance as a child of God (John 10:10), do not settle for anything less.
