Can I be really honest? After coming off the high of launching the website, I hit a brick wall. I got overwhelmed and fast. I found it hard to manage the website, social media, the mailing list alongside my normal life, my day job, music and other projects I am working on. The reality is sometimes we do bite off more than we can chew. However, anytime you start something new or add another layer of responsibility to your already busy adult life, more times than not your timing might be a bit out of whack. Something that has really helped me is rest and adjusting.
I had to take time out for myself to just re-centre. For me, this looked like watching cooking shows on Netflix and then being inspired to make some delicious meals. When you are taking on something new, adding something to your already busy schedule or you’re just feeling overwhelmed with what you already have on your plate… it is time to readjust. Here’s my 4-step guide to overcoming the feeling of being overwhelmed.
Step one: Hit pause on few things
Social media, work (if you need to, take some time off), cancel meetings (social and business). Not all of us can afford to press pause on all the things we’d like, but where you can, try to lighten your load. Use those moments to calm and centre yourself by doing something you love and that makes you feel peaceful, this could be writing, TV, going on walks.
Step two: Make use of aromatherapy
I would recommend working some aromatherapy into your routine by way of candles, body oils and pillow mists. As soon as I put on my scented candle, I feel so peaceful. Candle’s are an amazing way of making a space feel zen. I would also recommend putting body oil on before bed and using pillow mist to scent your pillow… You might just have the best sleep of your life.

Step three: Plan and adjust
Before entering back into your routine, make your changes. To gain some motivation, think about why you are doing all that you are doing, what is your end goal – financial stability, to help others? With this in mind keeping your eye on the prize, think about how you can adjust your daily routine – what can you spend more time/less time doing? How much time do you need to allocate to building your business, writing songs etc. Identify the areas where you might need help, and think about outsourcing or asking for support from friends and family. Adjust what needs to be adjusted so you can reach your end goal. You may need readjust on a weekly basis. if something is not working, do not be afraid to change it.
Step four: Execute the plan
Go into your new routine with confidence, you are more than capable. Be disciplined with yourself and stick to the plan.
