Introducing CUL/TURE a Conscious Interruption, we have officially revealed to the world and launched our social media campaign and I am so so excited to reveal more and more in the coming weeks and months. We are counting down to the launch of Collection One this fall.
This blog is the start of taking you behind the scenes of running this cool organisation, while working as a Trainee Solicitor at Red Bull, blog writing and juggling life’s pressures. But first what is this this brand all about:
CUL/TURE a Conscious Interruption is born out of a vision to diversify faith based fashion and lifestyle pieces, pieces that make a statement and is accessible to all. We want to be facilitators of the conversation about faith and how it helps us live our best and most fulfilled lives. And… we are building CUL/TURE Community, the arm of our organisation which is all about equipping young people with practical life skills including money management, tips going from education to the corporate world, email etiquette & management and so much more.
When did we start?
God gave me the idea and the name in 2019 but I think it was Q3 of 2020 where I begun starting real work which included talking to my friends who were designers and have worked with and built brands themselves, and then I paid to speak with brand owners to consult their advice on building a clothing brand. I immersed myself in learning how to start and brand and become a leader and CEO. I also met with co-founder Stacey-Ann Nelson regularly and we went about building this thing. While doing that I was going through counselling, still working and doing my best to invest in my spiritual life.
Patience and self development
I say all this because to arrive at this day, it involved so much self development and learning. Most importantly, it involved a lot of time. I knew I couldn’t rush the process but I just had to let it unfold.
When you walk in the flow with God….
One thing I can say is that with the emotional, spiritual and intellectual equipping, I am all the better for it and I am glad I did not rush. As a matter of fact, anytime I needed anything, God provided. For example, graphic designers we found each other and clicked instantly – I knew it was God. The right trademark lawyer, it did not take long, it was not protracted, rather through the amazing network God allows me to have, someone introduced me to my now amazing trademark lawyer who started up her own practice. When you walk in the flow, time and seasons of God for your life and not go ahead of Him, when you have a relationship with the Holy Spirit and listen to what He says to do and how He says to do it; you are set up for His will which is the best place to be.
The practical side of things
I had to master time management and deal with procrastination. I structure my weeks and days, try and ensure I look after my body by working out, making sure I have time for God, making sure that I commit my hours to my 9-5 (because it is important for me to show up and show out) and then look after CUL/TURE business.
In my day there are two parts. Part one – the morning and the Red Bull day and Part two – the evening and time to be creative and work on CUL/TURE.
Honestly though, in a climate where businesses are popping up here, there and everywhere (which I am so here for), I questioned whether CUL/TURE was needed, whether it would work, whether I had the financial resources and time capacity to run it effectively. The thing is, if you have a dream, and God has said go – GO. Starting is always the hard part, but to you who is reading this if you haven’t already, start. You will find your rhythm, your people, the finances; exercise your faith.
