How to Set Your Monthly Goals and Make Your Monthly Plan

I am a huge believer in writing down your goals and setting a clear vision for where you desire to go. The Bible says write the vision and make it plain (Habakkuk 2:2) and without vision people perish (Proverbs 29:18). In this day and age when time is just flying, everything is so fast paced and we are juggling so many things, having a clear vision for where you want to go, it is so important to have a plan and time frame for when you wish to get there. Before the start of each month, I would always recommend that you write your monthly goals and plan how they will be achieved. I have set out a guide of headings, which I use to plan my month as a guide for you, so you can get the most from December 2020. This year has been tough on the World, but it’s not about the middle or even the start, what matters most is how you finish and I want you to win!

A couple of important tips when sitting down to plan:

Make your time work for you. It is so easy to get caught up in what someone else is doing and to try to adopt what is working in their life, but that may not work for you. For example, encouragement to work out in the mornings, but the mornings might not be your vibe. Maybe you would prefer to start work earlier and work out when you finish? To be productive, we do not all have to have similar routines because our commitments and our goals are all so different. If you have to wake up early because that is the only time you can practice your instrument or work on your business, then do that. However equally, if starting your day at 11am works for you, do that too :).

Be realistic. Consider everything on your plate and remember there are only 24 hours in the day and only one of you. It seems silly to say, but out of those 24 hours, you need to factor in sleeping, eating, getting ready, working on your goals, down-time… We are supermen and superwomen, but remember to be realistic with your planning of the time you actually have.

With that being said, I have taken the headings from my monthly plan so you can pick and choose these headings and assemble your own monthly plan.

  • Affirmations.
    • Set the tone of your month with positive affirmations, scriptures or words for example “consistency”, “I am strong” or “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”
  • Goals for the month.
    • Break down your goals into categories for example goals within, your job, your business, your health and fitness
  • Overview of your week. This helps me to have a routine and ensures I allocate enough time to each of my goals
    • Weekly/daily habits – what time do I want to be waking up consistently? How many days a week do I want to work out? Morning devotion and meditation?
    • Scheduling after work activity, for me after 5pm is like another shift so each day after work is (for example) music practice, working on my secret project, working on my website. After your working day is a great opportunity to work on personal goals.
  • Books/Podcasts
    • Are there any particular books/podcasts you want to get through?
  • Bible Study
    • Each month I have a focus on book/s of the bible I am studying
  • Financial budget
    • Savings target
    • Check in of your monthly outgoings
    • Any services you have commissioned or irregular payments that you need to make in that month
  • Important dates
    • Birthdays and important dates of friends and family (exams, anniversaries, job interview etc)

Are you excited to get writing your monthly plan?! One month left until the end of the year, let’s get it!
