Discovering Your Worth

Psalm 139:14

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;Your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

Battling lack of self worth is difficult, there is no denying it. Over the last year, I have struggled with this in particular. There were times where I literally felt so low in myself, I thought I was nobody and nothing. I couldn’t see myself as valuable, beautiful, talented or loveable – I really struggled. When you battle lack of self worth, it impacts everything. Suddenly you have no confidence, cannot face social interactions – in person or online. You have no motivation to do anything because you do not think it’s worth it. The source of my self worth woes came from being hurt relationally, I want to be honest about that because I know that relationship problems cause so many of us to lose sight of our self worth. Although the source for you could be something totally different.

But, God.

I want to remind you today of who you are and cause you to re-evaluate your self worth. You are special, you are one of a kind – there is only one you. The Bible says you were fearfully and wonderfully made, handcrafted by our Father in Heaven, every physical feature and unique personality trait. Be encouraged and know that you are infinitely loved by God, our Father, the Creator of the universe, the God that exceeds your expectations and can do things that you can not even think or imagine (Ephesians 3:20). The Bible says:

  • “You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” (1 Peter 2:9) This is just beautiful. You are royal!
  • You are God’s most precious possession, the apple of His eye (Zechariah 2:8)
  • The Father loved you so much he sent Jesus as a sacrifice for your sin so He could be in a direct, personal relationship with you (John 3:16)
  • You were the joy set before Him (Jesus) as He endured the shame and pain of the cross (Hebrews 12:2)
  • Jesus came that you may have life and have life more abundantly. The New Living translation says, to give you a rich and satisfying life… Yes Lorddd (John 10:10)
  • As well as being a child of God, the Bible says you are a friend of God (John 15:13-15)
  • You are so precious that God does not want you to carry your own burdens, He wants you to give it to Him and allow Him to fight on your behalf (Psalm 46:10, Matthew 11:28-30, 2 Chronicles 20:15, Psalm 55:22
  • When you accept Jesus in your life, the Holy Spirit lives within you and guides you and the bible says, greater is He who is in you than he (the enemy and his minions) that is in the world (1 John 4:4)
  • You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you… Yes, you can overcome that challenge at work, overcome disappointment and heartbreak, reach your fitness goals. You can do it all (Philippians 4:13)
  • When you walk uprightly with God, there is no good thing that He will withhold from you (Psalm 84:11)

When you know who you are and what you are worth, your outlook will change. You’ll be stricter with who you let in your circle, you will run towards your dreams because you know that with God nothing is impossible. When life knocks you down, you know that God will fight your battles and give you the strength and peace to carry on. You understand that being loved by God is the most incredible thing ever and His love makes you whole.

You are beautiful/handsome, loved, worthy of love and worthy of a successful and fulfilling life. Receive that in your spirit today.

Lastly, I want to encourage you, if you have not already given your life to Jesus and you wish to (best decision ever by the way), pray this prayer:

Lord, I invite you into my life. Jesus I believe that you are the Son of the living God and You died for my sins. Lord, I ask for Your forgiveness from my sin. Help me to get to know You and to represent You on this Earth in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
