Hey there, I know you feel like everything is getting on top of you right now and that you’ll never be able to complete the vision God has given you. I speak to you, a friend in the same position. As someone who has cried and cried… and cried some more. Who has spent many sleepless nights worrying about how little old me (a 20-something newly-wed, mum of two rapidly growing boys) could possibly juggle my pressing responsibilities with the magnitude of the mission God has called me to. It’s overwhelming, impossible, totally bonkers to believe I can do it all on my own right? Right! Absolutely right! The truth is I can’t do it all. The truth is, neither can you. But the greatest truth is that we don’t have to. We’re not supposed to.
But wait a minute, doesn’t the Bible say something like, “God will not give you more than you can handle”? And doesn’t that mean that if I can’t handle my responsibilities on my own I’m a failure? Well, no actually. Firstly, that common Christian cliche you mentioned is drawn from 1 Corinthians 10:13, where the verse speaks specifically about temptation and not the assignments God has given you. In any case, even if the verse was talking about God’s purpose for our lives, it is explicit in emphasising that “…God will provide a way out so you can endure it”. This means that whether you’re drowning in temptation (as in the original context) or under the weight of your responsibilities, turning to God is the answer.
Often you feel most overwhelmed when you’re right in the thick of doing God’s work. You finally submitted to His persistent call. Maybe you changed your career, or started a business, or planted a church (or did all three!). He asked you to take a leap of faith and you did with the confidence that this is what I was born to do! However as you cultivated what he called you to create your relationship with the Creator took a hit. In your busyness you unintentionally started to leave him out of the process, leaving room for seeds of doubt to creep in. Did God really ask me to do all of this? Maybe He got it wrong? Maybe He actually meant to give this assignment to Susan from down the street. Why do I feel so alone? Perhaps I didn’t actually hear from the Holy Spirit because I’m definitely not worthy or capable of this task.
These doubt seeds are common lies from the Master of Deception. The Devil… Satan… Lucifer… are just a few more names of the one who desires to stop what God is doing through you. He will try to use whatever sneaky tactic he deems necessary, preying on your deepest insecurities and throwing all the weapons he has in his arsenal. He attacks on all fronts, hoping you will forget about the weapon you possess, the most formidable weapon there is, the Holy Spirit.
This deadly weapon lives inside of you, He is on your side and His unlimited power and wisdom are available to you. So the next time you feel overwhelmed remember who dwells in you. Let the Holy Spirit silence doubt. Let Him guide your next moves and show you exactly how He wants you to fulfil His purposes. Let Him empower you in the areas that need development. Most importantly let Him remind you that, as long as you do this journey with Him, you are not alone, you are worthy, you are capable!

We’ll done Shoshanna and Dominique!
Your words are very encouraging, which is what we need in these difficult times.
In Proverbs 27 v 17 KJV it says ‘Iron sharpeneth iron’, which is what you are doing.
Keep up the good work!
