Hello beautiful people and welcome to the first faith blog post of 2021. I wanted to write a blog post on a scripture that really touched me and had me thinking.
Hebrews 3:12-15 NIV:
‘See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. 13 But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. 14 We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end. 15 As has just been said:
“Today, if you hear his voice,
do not harden your hearts
as you did in the rebellion.”’
There are three points I wanted to highlight:
- It is our responsibility to look after each other spiritually, on a daily basis.
The text charges us to see to it that we, as a body and family, are not sinful in nature and have an unbelieving heart that turns away from God. To me this means we need to be telling people about Jesus, and praying for our people. While we cannot control anyone, and that is definitely not the aim because we all have free will to choose Jesus or not to choose Jesus, the aim rather is to have a heart for people and the kingdom of God. We want to see our friends and family in Heaven, and in this life enjoying the fullness of God’s love. Because of that, looking out for people spiritually should be a delight for us. I encourage you this week to tell one person about Jesus who may not know how awesome He is, and then think of five people you can pray for who do not know Jesus.
- Tomorrow is not promised and there will be a time when it is too late.
We are living in crazy times that the Bible describes as the last days. In short this means the days before Jesus will return for His bride, and His church will be raptured or in other words taken to Heaven.
Side Note: If you have any questions or would like any blog posts on this topic comment below.
With that in mind, no man knows the day or hour, so it is important to be ready. The scripture reminds us to encourage each other while it is still today. While it is still today, we have a chance to believe that God is who He says He is and allow Him to transform our lives. This is not to scare anyone. With every decision I make, I like to know all the facts and weigh up the pros and cons. The biggest decision we can make is who our soul belongs to, so you have a right to know the point at which it becomes too late to make that decision.
- Do not harden your heart.
Sometimes, before I have even listened to the full facts of something I have made a decision because that particular circumstance is the most comfortable for me – can y’all relate? When the Bible says do not harden your heart, it is saying do not make up your mind about God before hearing about Him and trying Him out for yourself. Christianity has been given a bad rep in society, but Christianity is all about a personal relationship with God. I implore you, try Jesus for yourself, He loves you, He is yearning to be in a relationship with you and He is closer than you think.
A prayer to invite God into your life:
Lord, I invite you into my life. Jesus I believe that You are the Son of the living God and You died for my sins. Lord, I ask for Your forgiveness from my sin. Help me to get to know You and to represent You on this earth. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
